Pandemics or Poisoning? (Part One)

How Fauci used AZT and Veklury (remdesivir) to turn AIDS and Covid-19 into "Pandemics"

I just finished reading "The Real Anthony Fauci" by Robert F. Kennedy Jr. It was excellent, and I highly recommend reading it if you haven’t already. Several chapters focused on Fauci’s handling of AIDS. It was striking to me how similar the “script” for COVID has been to the AIDS “script.” For today’s post, I am going to focus on the first Standard of Care treatment for AIDS: AZT. In part two I will focus on the first Standard of Care treatment for Covid-19: remdesivir.

From Kennedy¹ we learn that AZT was developed in 1964 as a leukemia chemotherapy by cancer researcher Jerome Horwitz. Testing on mice revealed that not only was the drug ineffective against leukemia, it was even too toxic for use as a short-regimen chemotherapy. Horwitz gave up on patenting the drug because the toxicity made it “worthless” as a prospective cancer treatment.

Kennedy goes to explain² how Fauci guided a failed and toxic drug through the clinical trial process and into being the exclusive (and expensive) Standard of Care treatment not only for AIDS patients but also for “HIV-positive” patients. The tricks included waiving long-term primate studies, unblinding the placebo and AZT groups almost immediately, allowing members of the placebo group to take AZT, administering AZT to the AZT group for varying amounts of time (in some cases only four weeks), giving members of the AZT group blood transfusions, and stopping the study after four months (instead of the scheduled six).

Beyond the “how” of AZT (so thoroughly explained and documented by Kennedy), I think it is interesting to speculate as to “why” Fauci chose AZT. If Big Pharma profit was the only motive, why not choose one of the many drugs that were much safer and just put out a “new” version that could be patented? I believe that, for Fauci, the toxicity of AZT was a feature, not a bug. Because AZT mimicked many of the symptoms of AIDS, “HIV-positive” patients and their doctors would blame HIV rather than the drug. Without a high death count to point to, it is very difficult to keep the pandemic gravy train of government funding rolling. For Fauci, killing over 300,000 people with AZT³ resulted in 30+ years of ever-increasing power and wealth in name of fighting the war on AIDS. The Fauci hunt for an “HIV cure” would not still be getting fresh funding⁴ after almost 40 years without the justification of hundreds of thousands of AZT deaths attributed to HIV.
